Darknavy researchers compromise Starlink user terminals

Darknavy, a cybersecurity research institute based in Singapore and Shanghai, has announced a successful compromise of the latest Starlink user terminals. Using sophisticated hardware attacks, the team gained full administrative control over the devices, enabling the execution of custom code.

This breakthrough provides researchers with an entry point for in-depth security studies of the SpaceX-operated satellite constellation, a capability that had previously been stalled due to the terminals' high security. The ability to control these terminals is significant given their role as critical communication nodes, particularly in battlefield environments like Ukraine, where they facilitate internet access by routing signals through satellites to neighboring ground gateways.
