Darko Šarić appeals faces review of six-year sentence in Belgrade
The Appellate Court in Belgrade has begun reviewing appeals regarding the six-year prison sentence handed to Darko Šarić. The conviction stems from an attempt to discredit Nebojša Joksović, a cooperating witness in a separate cocaine smuggling case.
Proceedings are scheduled to continue through October 30. While the defendants are not required to be present, their lawyers will represent them during the hearings. The court has the authority to uphold, modify, or overturn the original verdict, or to call for additional evidence.
Several other individuals were convicted in the initial ruling, including Šarić’s brother, Duško Šarić, and former lawyer Dejan Lazarević. Other sentenced individuals include police officers Danilo Stojanović and Milutin Radovanović, as well as various other associates involved in organized crime and abuse of office. Some defendants, such as Bojan Stanojković and Nikola Spasojević, were sentenced in absentia.
