Darko Lisac, Croatian soldier killed on the first day of Operation Storm remembered as hero
Darko Lisac, known by the nickname “Foxy,” served in the 2A Brigade “Gromovi” as a scout‑diversionist during the Croatian War of Independence. On the first day of the 1995 Operation Storm offensive, he attempted to liberate his native village of Jukinec in the Gline area. Lisac was shot and died a few metres from his comrades, who later described him as exceptionally brave and willing to take the most dangerous tasks.
His fellow soldiers, including Stefan Obranović and Denis Zibar, recounted the chaotic fighting and the moment Lisac fell, noting the large wound on his chest and the efforts to carry him to safety before he succumbed to his injuries. Lisac’s death has become part of the local memory of the operation, symbolising the sacrifices made during the war.
