Darko Čuden, prominent linguist and translator, passes away

The University of Ljubljana has announced the passing of Doc. Dr. Darko Čuden, who died on August 13, 2026. Born on November 17, 1961, Čuden had been professionally connected to the Faculty of Arts since 1991.

As a professor of modern German, he contributed to the field of Germanic studies for over three decades. His expertise spanned various linguistic areas, including morphology, syntax, semantics, and particularly onomastics. Beyond his academic work, Čuden was a prolific translator and theater creator, bringing literary voices from German, English, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Faroese to Slovenian audiences, as well as works in Spanish and Portuguese.
