Darline Graham faces scrutiny in South Carolina Senate runoff

Senator Darline Graham, appointed to fill the seat of her late brother Lindsey Graham, is facing intense scrutiny ahead of a Republican runoff election in South Carolina against Representative Ralph Norman. During a recent debate, Graham drew criticism and boos after admitting she was “not that informed on national security” when asked about U.S. interests in Taiwan and the South China Sea.

Graham has attempted damage control by stating she is “not a politician” and arguing that South Carolina voters are more concerned with domestic issues like the economy and immigration. She also expressed continued support for Israel and various sanctions against Iran.

President Donald Trump has endorsed Graham and is scheduled to campaign for her at a rally in Myrtle Beach to bolster her bid. The runoff election will determine the Republican nominee for the full six-year Senate term, which the winner will face in the November general election.
