Darline Graham wins South Carolina Republican Senate primary runoff

Darline Graham, a political newcomer, has won the Republican special primary runoff for the U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina. She defeated five-term Representative Ralph Norman, securing approximately 52.3% to 52.6% of the vote compared to Norman's 47.4% to 47.7%. Graham, who was appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to fill the vacancy left by the death of her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, in July, will now compete in the November general election against Democrat Annie Andrews.

The victory is seen as a significant endorsement of President Donald Trump, who heavily campaigned for Graham and provided substantial financial support through his super PAC, MAGA Inc., which reportedly spent over $800,000 to boost her candidacy. Despite the win, Graham faced scrutiny during recent debates regarding her lack of experience and her admission that she is “not that informed on national security.”

In the general election, Graham is expected to face a challenge from pediatrician Annie Andrews. While the race is considered solidly Republican, the primary outcome serves as a notable test of Trump's continued influence over the Republican electorate.
