Darmstadt implements measures for Scentral and Herrngarten drug scene

The Darmstadt Green Party (GRÜNE) has welcomed new concrete measures aimed at managing the open drug scene in the Scentral and Herrngarten areas. The new municipal proposal follows a decision made by the city assembly in September 2025 to consolidate the drug scene into a supervised location.

Key components of the plan include the creation of a delimited, socially supervised area for staying, expanded streetwork hours, and the stabilization of daytime rest areas. The proposal also includes twice-daily cleaning services and additional prevention offerings. Authorities are further evaluating the possibility of an inhalation area and a temporary drug consumption room to improve safety and cleanliness for both users and local residents.
