Darmstadt political parties approve new municipal alliance

Major political parties in Darmstadt, including the CDU and SPD, have officially committed to a new municipal cooperation known as the ‘Bündnis für Darmstadt’ (Alliance for Darmstadt).

The CDU Darmstadt unanimously approved its entry into the alliance during a party convention, emphasizing a focus on security, cleanliness, economic conditions, budget management, climate protection, and administrative modernization. Party leadership noted that the cooperation is built on trust and a shared reform course for the city.

Similarly, the SPD Darmstadt approved a 14-page cooperation paper with only two abstentions. This alliance includes the CDU, Uffbasse, and FDP. Key objectives outlined in the SPD's documentation include digitalizing city administration through AI, improving transitions from education to employment, expanding school social work, and extending the tram network to neighboring municipalities such as Weiterstadt, Riedstadt, Roßdorf, and Groß-Zimmern. The alliance also aims to prioritize school renovations and urban development to balance growth with quality of life.
