Darnell Washington fined by NFL for touchdown celebration

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington has been fined $14,926 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty stems from what the league described as “illegal celebrations and vulgar acts” following a second-quarter touchdown against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7.

The touchdown occurred during a game in Paris, marking the first NFL touchdown ever scored in France. Washington’s celebration involved a gesture deemed vulgar by league officials. In the same game, wide receiver Brandon Smith was also fined $4,916 for the use of a helmet.

Despite the fine, Washington’s touchdown helped the Steelers secure a 16-10 victory over the Saints, moving the team to a 5-2 record. Washington finished the game with one reception for four yards and the touchdown.
