Darty to invest 10 million euros in Portuguese retail expansion
Darty, the brand following the rebranding of MediaMarkt in Portugal, is investing 10 million euros to expand its retail footprint. The company aims to operate 40 stores in Portugal by 2030.
Following approval from the Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC), Darty (owned by Fnac Darty) has acquired 11 commercial spaces from Staples Portugal. These locations include Viana do Castelo, Vila do Conde, Barcelos, Penafiel, Caldas da Rainha, Torres Vedras, Olivais (Lisbon), Cascais, Santarém, Setúbal, and Lagoa.
The acquisition allows Darty to accelerate its expansion and reach its goal of achieving a double-digit market share by 2030 through physical stores and omnichannel sales. For Staples, the sale is part of an asset optimization strategy to transition toward a new business model focused on smaller, more agile proximity stores. Staples will continue to operate its remaining 23 locations.
