Darwin Espinal-Del Cid arrested in Honduras for Pennsylvania killing

Darwin David Espinal-Del Cid, 27, has been arrested in Honduras and is facing extradition to Pennsylvania following the killing of his girlfriend, Maria Bernarda Popol Garcia, 22. The arrest was the result of a coordinated operation involving the FBI and Honduran authorities.

Prosecutors allege that the incident occurred in March in Telford, Bucks County, after Popol Garcia attempted to end their relationship. Investigators claim Espinal-Del Cid attacked her with a sharp object, wrapped her body in a blanket, and hid it in a bedroom closet. Her body was discovered nine days later by another resident of the apartment building.

Authorities state that Espinal-Del Cid fled the United States on March 9 after purchasing a one-way ticket to Honduras. Before leaving, he allegedly took the victim's cellphone and approximately $400 in cash. He is accused of using her phone to send text messages to her family in an attempt to impersonate her and make them believe she was still alive.
