Darwin police officer stabbed by 14-year-old girl

A 14-year-old girl has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a police officer in Darwin. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at a shopping centre on Smith Street while officers were responding to reports of a disturbance involving a security guard and property damage.

During the confrontation, the girl allegedly used a kitchen knife to strike an officer in the upper arm and chest. Police deployed a Taser to apprehend the suspect. The injured officer was treated by paramedics and transported to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other teenagers, a 16-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were also arrested at the scene, though charges have not yet been laid.

Police Commissioner Martin Dole described the attack as unacceptable, stating that officers should be able to respond to calls for help without being attacked.
