Das Filmfest celebrates 20 years of German-language cinema in Czech Republic

The 20th anniversary of Das Filmfest, a festival dedicated to German-language cinema, begins on October 15. The event features approximately thirty feature films, documentaries, and animated works from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

The festival opens with ‘Gentle Monster’ by director Marie Kreutzer, starring Léa Seydoux. The program includes several Oscar contenders and award winners, such as Germany’s ‘Always’ by Sandra Wollner and Austria’s ‘Rose’ by Markus Schleinzer. Other notable titles include the Swiss film ‘Heroine’ and various literary adaptations.

In Prague, screenings will take place until October 20 at venues including Lucerna, Edison Filmhub, Světozor, and the Church of U Salvátora. The festival will subsequently travel to Brno, Olomouc, and Ústí nad Labem. The event is co-organized by the Goethe-Institut Czech Republic, the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague, and the Swiss Embassy in the Czech Republic.
