Das große Backen 2026 season details and recipes

The 14th season of the German baking competition show ‘Das große Backen’ is scheduled to premiere on Sat.1 on July 29, 2026. Twelve amateur bakers, including a baking influencer and a former professional handball player, will compete for the title of Germany’s best amateur baker. The season is expected to consist of nine episodes, concluding with a finale on September 23, 2026. Episodes will also be available on the streaming platform Joyn.

One of the technical challenges featured in the show involves making Mochi-Donuts, also known as ‘Pon de Ring’. These donuts are characterized by a chewy texture achieved through the use of Shiratamako, a Japanese glutinous rice flour, and silken tofu. Unlike traditional donuts, this recipe does not require yeast or long rising times, instead utilizing baking powder for leavening.
