DASK provides earthquake insurance for 11.7 million homes in Turkey
The Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK) has marked its 26th year of operation, providing financial security for 11,710,514 homes in Turkey. Since its establishment on September 27, 2000, following the 1999 Marmara earthquake, the institution has processed 891,774 damage reports from 1,403 earthquakes and completed payments for 701,696 files.
DASK’s total damage payments have exceeded 42 billion TL (approximately 2 billion USD) over its history. The institution’s current fund size has reached 30 billion TL. Supported by international reinsurance and state backing, the financial structure is designed to independently cover the damages of two large-scale earthquakes occurring within a single year.
Technological advancements and digital integration have been central to DASK’s recent developments. The institution has implemented a common data model and strengthened integrations with the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, the National Address Database, and the e-Devlet platform. These improvements aim to automate insurance checks during real estate transactions and utility subscriptions, while also standardizing post-earthquake damage assessment methodologies in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
