Data becomes a vital asset in the esports ecosystem
Data is increasingly becoming a vital asset within the esports ecosystem, serving as a critical tool for training, competition, viewer experience, and commercial evaluation. Unlike traditional sports, most esports developments are recorded as digital data, including resource management, damage dealt, skill usage, and map control.
At the competitive level, coaching staff use data such as ban/pick (BP) rates, objective control, and combat patterns to analyze opponents and develop strategies. Data also provides quantitative metrics for player evaluation, including KDA, kill participation, and damage per minute, which assists in scouting and transfers.
Commercially, data helps sponsors and partners assess audience scale, engagement levels, and brand coverage. This growth is supported by technological infrastructure from game developers like Riot Games and Valve, who have built systems to facilitate data usage for games and tournaments.
