Belgium data breaches affect at least 47 organizations
At least 47 companies and institutions in Belgium have suffered data breaches since the start of 2026, according to an investigation by the Belgian financial daily L’Echo and Fox&Fish Cyberdefense. The findings, which have been confirmed by the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium, indicate that the number of affected entities in the first months of 2026 has already surpassed the total reported for the entire previous year.
The compromised organizations include municipal authorities, hospitals, travel agencies, and various private businesses. The leaked information includes names, dates of birth, bank account numbers, telephone numbers, and home addresses. In some instances, highly personal data such as family photographs were also exposed.
Cybersecurity experts warn that the frequency of these attacks is accelerating. Mathias Vissers, co-founder of Fox&Fish Cyberdefense, noted that the volume of hacks and data leaks is expected to multiply in the coming months due to the use of artificial intelligence. Specialists cautioned that criminals can cross-reference this stolen data with other sources to create detailed victim profiles, facilitating more effective phishing attacks and fraud.
