Ryde data breach exposes personal details of millions

An unauthorized intrusion into the systems of Norwegian e‑scooter provider Ryde occurred during the night of 2 August. The attackers copied data from all customer accounts, affecting an estimated 4.5 million users in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Germany.

Leaked information includes mobile phone numbers, e‑mail addresses, dates of birth and partial payment‑card numbers (the first six and last four digits). Full card numbers are stored by Ryde’s payment‑service provider and were not compromised. Ryde has filed a police report and says customers do not need to block their cards, but they should remain vigilant for fraud attempts.

Norway’s data‑protection authority Datatilsynet has opened an investigation. Senior adviser Eirik Gulbrandsen said the agency is reviewing the incident and will support affected users. Ryde CEO Tobias Balchen confirmed the company’s systems remain operational and urged customers to beware of phishing or calls pretending to be from Ryde or their bank.
