I-CAD data breach exposes 2.9 million pet owners in France

A major cybersecurity breach has compromised the I-CAD national identification database for dogs, cats, and ferrets in France. The incident, discovered in mid-October 2026, involved the unauthorized use of an access account belonging to the Livre Officiel des Origines Félines (LOOF) to extract data.

A hacker using the pseudonym ‘ChimeraZ’ listed the stolen information for sale on a cybercriminal forum. The breach reportedly affects approximately 2.9 million pet owners. The exposed data includes owners' names and contact details, as well as animal identification information such as microchip numbers, animal names, dates of birth, sex, and sterilization status.

While the Ministry of Agriculture and I-CAD confirmed the incident, they clarified that sensitive financial information and passwords were not compromised. However, the leak poses risks of targeted scams, such as fraudulent calls from individuals posing as veterinarians or I-CAD representatives. The breach follows a previous security incident at I-CAD in September 2025.
