Data center developments spark mixed reactions in Denmark
The construction of large-scale data centers is causing varying reactions in Danish local communities. In Varde Kommune, specifically in the villages of Tinghøj and Lunde, residents have expressed frustration and uncertainty regarding Microsoft’s plans to build data centers up to 32 meters high, some located only 25 meters from residential homes. Residents in these areas have noted a lack of economic compensation from the tech giant.
In contrast, residents on Lolland have responded positively to a data center project by the company Stender. The company intends to purchase 114 hectares of open fields to build a facility equivalent to the size of 160 football pitches. To mitigate local concerns, Stender has approached 12 of the nearest neighbors to offer them the opportunity to sell their properties at a favorable price.
