Data centre FDI reaches record $320 billion in 2025

Global foreign direct investment (FDI) in the communications sector has reached a record high of $320 billion in 2025, driven primarily by a massive surge in data centre investment. This represents a significant increase from the previous 2024 record of $184 billion.

According to data from Di Intelligence and Statista, the data centre sub-sector alone accounted for a $235 billion increase in FDI compared to the previous year. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) noted that data centres represented more than one-fifth of all global greenfield project values in 2025, signaling a structural shift in international capital allocation toward digital infrastructure.
