DATA Network joins Sui and Walrus to scale AI training data supply

The DATA Foundation and Sui Foundation have announced that the DATA Network and its Trace registry will join the Sui stack. This integration aims to provide a live supply of rights-cleared AI training data for next-generation AI models.

Walrus, a data platform with integrity proofs anchored on Sui, will serve as the default storage layer for applications operated by the DATA Foundation. Additionally, the DATA Network is scheduled to be upgraded to run as a native protocol on Sui. This setup allows AI laboratories to source real-world training data with provenance recorded by Trace, while original files are stored and access-controlled via Walrus.

The initiative addresses growing constraints in AI development regarding access to high-quality, real-world data. As the open internet becomes increasingly scraped, regulatory requirements like the EU AI Act have made data provenance a necessity. The Trace registry, which has already recorded over 250 million verifiable receipts, is designed to manage personal and regulated data by recording the origin of contributions and settling payments to the original creators.
