Datça, Turkey shaken by 5.3‑magnitude offshore earthquake

On 2 July 2026 at 14:06 local time, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck offshore in the Mediterranean, about 137 km from Datça in Muğla Province. The quake originated at a depth of 19.87 km and was felt across nearby coastal towns and several provinces.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported no immediate casualties or material damage, but the tremor caused brief panic among residents, who temporarily left homes and workplaces. Search‑and‑rescue teams were dispatched to monitor the area, and AFAD warned that aftershocks could follow.
