Databricks secures $188 billion valuation in new strategic funding round

Databricks announced a strategic financing round that values the data‑and‑AI company at $188 billion. The round is led by existing investor Coatue and includes other new and existing backers; the term sheet suggests roughly $3 billion will be added to the balance sheet, with closing expected in summer 2026. The new capital will be used to expand Databricks’ AI portfolio, particularly the Genie AI assistant, the Unity AI Gateway governance platform, and the Lakebase server‑less Postgres database for AI agents. The company says the funding will also support future AI‑focused acquisitions and research.

Databricks, headquartered in San Francisco, serves more than 20,000 organisations worldwide, including about 70 % of the Fortune 500. The $188 billion valuation represents a roughly 40 % increase from the $134 billion mark recorded earlier in 2026, underscoring strong investor appetite for enterprise‑AI platforms that combine data storage, analytics and cost‑governance layers.

Multiple reports from the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Reuters confirm the term‑sheet details and the strategic focus on closing the “context gap” in enterprise AI, where dispersed data and unmanaged model usage have hindered cost‑effective AI deployment.
