Dates offer nutritional benefits as a natural alternative to sweets

Dates serve as a nutritious, natural alternative to traditional sweets due to their high sugar content and caramel-like flavor. They are rich in dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium, copper, and manganese, which support digestive health, nervous system function, and energy metabolism.

Dietician Weronika Białasz from Dietetycy.org notes that dates are an excellent source of antioxidants, such as flavonoids and carotenoids, which help protect cells from oxidative stress. Because they provide quickly available energy, they are particularly useful for physical activity before or after training.

However, experts warn that moderation is essential. Dried dates are calorie-dense, containing approximately 278 kcal per 100g, with a high carbohydrate content of 75g. To avoid exceeding caloric limits during weight loss efforts, it is recommended to consume only 2–3 pieces per day.
