Dating apps face challenges with user fatigue and safety

Modern dating app users are increasingly facing emotional exhaustion and safety concerns. Many users report feeling burnout due to the repetitive nature of messaging, ghosting, and the perceived effort required to maintain digital connections, which can feel more like a job than a social activity.

To combat dating app fatigue, experts suggest recognizing signs of burnout, such as feelings of déjà vu regarding social interactions, and taking temporary breaks or digital detoxes.

Safety remains a primary concern for users, particularly women, who face risks such as catfishing, stalking, and harassment. Some platforms have implemented specific tools to mitigate these risks. For example, Bumble offers photo and ID verification, in-app video calls, a ‘Share Date’ feature for notifying trusted contacts, and a deception detector to flag potential scam accounts. Tinder has also worked to evolve its reputation and safety protocols.
