Dating platforms and live shows pivot toward in-person connection

Dating platforms and local organizers are increasingly focusing on in-person experiences to combat swiping fatigue and the disconnect between online interaction and real-world meetings.

Tinder has expanded its ‘Events’ feature to 20 cities across the United States and Europe. The feature allows users to meet through shared activities such as pickleball, trivia, or sauna sessions. According to Tinder chief product officer Mark Kantor, the goal is to provide a natural starting point for connection, noting that 71% of Gen Z users in Los Angeles have engaged with the feature.

Bumble is also implementing real-world activations, including singles mixers in New York and rooftop parties in Nashville. A Bumble spokesperson stated that the company aims to close the gap between digital connection and physical meetings.

In Melbourne, a new live dating show titled ‘Human Love Quest’ is launching at the Brunswick Ballroom. Created by Xander Allan, Conor Gallacher, and The Captain, the show serves as an antithesis to dating apps by featuring live onstage competition. The event includes a vetting process for contestants and a zero-tolerance policy regarding anti-social behavior to ensure participant safety.
