Datuk Aznil Nawawi discusses career beginnings and mentorship

Renowned Malaysian presenter Datuk Aznil Nawawi, popularly known as Pak Nil, has shared insights into his early career struggles and his philosophy on mentoring the next generation of entertainers.

Aznil revealed that after graduating from Universiti Malaya, he initially worked as a public relations officer for a shipping company. He transitioned into the arts after being scouted as a commercial model for brands such as Cadbury, Colgate, Nescafe, and Pepsi. This involvement led to a warning from his employer, prompting him to resign in 1984 to pursue a career in the arts, which included performing at The Ship in Damansara to support his family.

Addressing his role as a veteran in the industry, Aznil rejected the notion that senior celebrities tend to criticize newcomers. Instead, he views himself as a mentor, often reaching out to young artists via direct messages to offer guidance and constructive feedback. He expressed support for digital content creators on platforms like TikTok and emphasized the importance of nurturing new talent to ensure the future of the broadcasting industry.
