Daughters of the American Revolution expands membership to transgender women while hosting historic women’s program
The Charleston Museum partnered with local chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to host a free public program on July 18, 2026 titled “Remember the Ladies!”, celebrating the contributions of South Carolina women during the American Revolution.
Earlier, the DAR’s 135th Continental Congress voted to strike down a resolution defining “woman” as someone born female, allowing transgender women to become members. Five transgender men have already joined the society, prompting criticism from conservative voices who view the change as a challenge to traditional definitions.
