Daughters of the American Revolution host Constitution Week ceremonies
Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held ceremonies on September 17 to mark the beginning of Constitution Week. The annual observance involves the simultaneous ringing of bells at 4 p.m. EDT across the United States to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.
In Clinton, North Carolina, the Richard Clinton Chapter of the DAR hosted a ceremony at the Sampson County Courthouse, joined by local churches. The event included a proclamation from the Mayor and a performance by the Clinton High School JROTC Color Guard. In Salisbury, the Elizabeth Maxwell Steele Chapter of the DAR held a service at the Bell Tower Green, featuring proclamations from city and county officials.
Constitution Week, observed from September 17 to September 23, was established following a 1955 DAR petition to Congress. The tradition aims to encourage the study of the Constitution and emphasize the responsibilities of citizenship.
