Davao City implements enhanced school security and psychosocial support
Davao City officials, the Department of Education Region 11 (DepEd 11), and the Davao City Police Office are implementing enhanced security and psychosocial support measures in schools. These actions follow a recent shooting incident at a school in Zamboanga City and follow a directive from Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to strengthen safety around learning facilities.
New security protocols include heightened checks at school entry points, intensified anti-threat advocacy, and streamlined emergency response coordination. To address student well-being, the City Social Welfare and Development Office and DepEd 11 are providing mental health and psychosocial support programs.
In response to recent campus violence, DepEd 11 spokesperson Jenielito Atillo defended educators against public criticism, stating that student discipline and moral upbringing are shared responsibilities that begin at home. Atillo emphasized that parents play the primary role in character formation and urged families to remain actively involved in their children's lives to prevent negative external influences.
