Davao City Mayor clarifies ₱33.26M in GENCORP transactions

Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has clarified that the city government’s transactions with GENCORP Industries Inc. totaled ₱33.26 million across 19 contracts since 2022. This figure corrects previous reports that estimated the amount at ₱14.32 million.

Of the 19 contracts, 13 have been completed and six are ongoing. The Mayor stated that four contracts were obtained through competitive public bidding, while 15 were executed via small-value procurement. He maintained that GENCORP was rigorously evaluated in every instance and provided the lowest calculated responsive bid.

The transactions were processed and published through the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS). Regarding the potential conflict of interest involving Vice President Sara Duterte, the Mayor stated that city officials were unaware of her interest in the company. He noted that neither her name nor the surname “Duterte” appears in the official company documents, including the Articles of Incorporation.

These clarifications come amid impeachment proceedings against the Vice President, where the House prosecution panel has indicated that Mayor Duterte may be called as a witness regarding GENCORP, which the Vice President identified as a financial interest in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
