Davao City revives waling-waling orchid exhibit for Kadayawan Festival 2026
The Davao City Tourism Operations Office is reinstating a floriculture exhibit featuring the iconic waling‑waling orchid as a major highlight of the Kadayawan Festival 2026. Administrative Officer Charlotte Parba said the display will showcase collections held by private hobbyists, prove the orchid has not disappeared, and encourage new growers to propagate the flower, helping revive the local orchid industry.
The city also highlighted collaborations with local creative partner Lilac Seed, which has turned the orchid into wearable art for festival pageant candidates. While large‑scale orchid growers have dwindled, the exhibit aims to boost public appreciation and stimulate renewed cultivation.
Separately, Dusit Thani Davao Hotels launched a series of Kadayawan‑themed experiences, offering up to 40% off three‑night stays, a city‑tour add‑on, and limited‑time dining menus inspired by Mindanao’s harvest. General manager Vanessa Suatengco said the initiatives are designed to let visitors and locals alike enjoy Davao’s culture, heritage, and hospitality during the festival.
