Davao Region coffee production grows amid rising specialty demand

The Davao Region in the Philippines is experiencing steady growth in coffee production, maintaining its status as the country’s second-largest producer. This expansion is driven by rising domestic demand for local specialty coffee, as consumers increasingly prioritize quality and are willing to pay premium prices.

National coffee production currently stands at under 30,000 metric tons, creating a supply gap relative to rising domestic consumption. To address this, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has established a Coffee Industry Development Office and allocated over ₱37 million for regional interventions. This funding is designated for planting materials, fertilizers, training, and post-harvest machinery and equipment.

While production is increasing, industry officials note the challenge of ensuring that higher market prices for specialty beans translate into higher and more reliable incomes for farmers. The upcoming Regional Coffee Expo 2026 in Davao de Oro is expected to feature industry stakeholders, coffee competitions, and youth scholarship announcements to further support the sector.
