Production of Amazon Prime Video’s live‑action God of War series was halted after lead actor Ryan Hurst suffered a torn biceps while filming a stunt, requiring surgery and months of rehabilitation. Four episodes already shot with Hurst will need to be reshot.

Amazon has begun recasting the role of Kratos, with former WWE star and actor Dave Bautista reported to be in talks to take over the part. Preparation for the new lead is slated to start in mid‑August, with filming resuming in mid‑October in Vancouver. The series, overseen by showrunner Ronald D. Moore, retains its two‑season order and back‑to‑back production schedule and will continue to adapt the 2018 God of War video game.
