Dave Boyle to direct Hollywood remake of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s ‘Pulse’
Screen Gems, a division of Sony Pictures, and Spyglass are developing a reimagining of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s 2001 techno-horror classic, ‘Pulse’ (Kairo).
Dave Boyle, known for ‘House of Ninjas’ and ‘Tokyo Cowboy’, is set to direct the project. Boyle will also work on the script alongside Luke Piotrowski, who previously wrote a version of the project. The production involves Parker Finn, director of the ‘Smile’ franchise, through his company Bad Feeling, alongside producer Jonathan Fass.
The original film, which won the International Critics' Week Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, follows young people in Tokyo encountering inexplicable phenomena linked to technology and mysterious websites. While specific plot details for the remake remain under wraps, it is confirmed to be set in the modern day with a new cast of characters.
