Dave Davies Highlights Beatles Rivalry at London Art Exhibition

At the opening of the "The Kinks: Brothers" art exhibition in Gibson Garage, London, guitarist Dave Davies recalled the long‑standing rivalry between The Kinks and The Beatles. He said, “John Lennon didn’t like The Kinks, really didn’t,” and added that George Harrison was “the only one I really liked.” Davies also praised Paul McCartney’s songwriting, noting he wrote “a few decent songs.”

The exhibition, co‑curated with his brother Ray Davies and portrait painter Christian Furr, re‑imagines a 1968 passport‑photo portrait of the siblings through mixed‑media works. The brothers referenced their 1964 appearance as the Beatles’ opening act in Bournemouth, just before the release of "You Really Got Me," which gave them their first UK number‑one. Following media coverage, Davies clarified on X that he remains a fan of The Beatles and appreciates the compliments from McCartney.
