Dave Franco stars in upcoming R-rated comedy Idiots

The upcoming R-rated comedy “Idiots,” written and directed by Macon Blair, follows three characters—Mark (Dave Franco), Davis (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), and Sheridan Kimberley (Mason Thames)—on a chaotic cross-country road trip. The plot centers on two men hired to transport a troubled teenager to a rehabilitation facility, a task that quickly escalates into a series of dangerous and absurd situations involving crime and drugs.

Dave Franco has described the film as a throwback to the high-energy, R-rated comedies popular in the early 2000s, citing influences such as “Harold & Kumar,” “The Hangover,” “Superbad,” and “Pineapple Express.” The production emphasized the chemistry between the three leads, who reportedly carpooled to the set to build their on-screen dynamic. The film also features supporting roles from Peter Dinklage and Kiernan Shipka and is scheduled for theatrical release on August 28, 2026.
