Dave Lombardo reflects on 40 years of Slayer's ‘Reign In Blood’
Dave Lombardo, the original drummer for the thrash metal band Slayer, recently reflected on the 40th anniversary of the band's seminal third studio album, ‘Reign In Blood’. Released on October 7, 1986, the album is regarded as a landmark release in the metal genre.
Lombardo noted that listening to the record still triggers intense physical reactions, including increased heart rate and adrenaline. He contrasted the raw, aggressive energy of the original recording sessions with modern music, which he described as often feeling sterile due to the use of computer recording software.
The album's production involved collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, marking a significant turning point for the band's sound. Lombardo also touched upon the legacy of late guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who was instrumental in composing many of the band's classic tracks.
