Dave Lombardo reflects on Slayer’s ‘Reign in Blood’ 40th anniversary
Former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo discussed the enduring impact of the band’s seminal album, ‘Reign in Blood’, during a recent interview on the Loaded Radio podcast. Marking the album's 40th anniversary, Lombardo noted that listening to the tracks still triggers intense physical reactions, including increased heart rate and adrenaline.
Lombardo also commented on the current state of thrash metal, contrasting modern recordings with the era of his band. He suggested that the widespread use of music production software has made much contemporary music feel sterile. He contrasted this with the ‘restless’ and aggressive energy found in older recordings, which he attributed to the raw, human interaction and collective drive of the band members during the recording process.
