Dave Mustaine discusses Megadeth version of Ride the Lightning

Dave Mustaine, leader of Megadeth, has addressed the inclusion of a new version of ‘Ride the Lightning’ on the band’s latest album. Mustaine clarified that the track is not a standard cover, as he holds songwriting credits for the original composition from his time with Metallica.

Mustaine stated that the decision to record the song was intended to ‘close the circle’ regarding his history with his former bandmates, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, especially as he views this stage of his career as a potential conclusion. He noted that the recording process occurred when the album was already two-thirds complete.

To differentiate the version, Megadeth increased the tempo and enhanced the solo, drums, and overall intensity. Despite the release, Mustaine mentioned that he has not received any communication from Metallica regarding the new rendition.
