Dave O'Brien signs Red Sox play-by-play extension through 2028

Dave O'Brien has signed a two-year contract extension to remain the play-by-play voice for Boston Red Sox broadcasts on NESN through at least the 2028 season.

According to reports, O'Brien, 63, opted for a shorter commitment rather than a longer-term deal to allow for a reduced workload and more time with his family. The extension follows his long career with the organization, which includes radio work dating back to 2007 and moving to NESN television broadcasts in 2016.

Negotiations reportedly included discussions regarding contract language concerning potential lockouts. While his role is expected to shrink slightly next season, he remains a central figure in the Red Sox broadcast booth.
