Dave Pearson restocks looted shark bite kits in Australia
Dave Pearson, founder of the Bite Club support group, is facing ongoing challenges due to the theft of beachside first-aid kits along Australia's Mid North Coast. Pearson, who survived a bull shark attack at Crowdy Head in 2011, has been using his experience to train young surfers in emergency triage and life-saving techniques, such as using surfboard leg ropes as tourniquets.
Pearson has been personally funding the restocking of shark bite kits that are frequently looted by vandals. He expressed concern that if these kits are empty during a real emergency, such as a recent attack in Coogee, the consequences could be tragic. He suggested the thefts are likely opportunistic rather than malicious, though he continues to refill the kits to ensure community safety.
