He called the performance “pathetic” and “embarrassing,” criticised goalkeeper Matt Freese and the defense, and said the team looked like a “joke” on a stage that was “too big.”

Portnoy filmed himself removing his USMNT jersey and cap and throwing them in a trash can, adding that the United States should consider a “soccer draft” and even suggesting athletes such as LeBron James be recruited. He also referenced President Donald Trump’s phone call to FIFA president Gianni Infantino about Folarin Balogun’s red‑card suspension, arguing the incident highlighted broader issues in US soccer administration.
