Dave Rennie discusses All Blacks selection and player roles

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie has addressed the ongoing absence of Du'Plessis Kirifi from national selection, citing disciplinary issues and penalty counts as primary factors. Rennie noted that while Kirifi is an excellent player, his tendency to concede penalties distinguishes him from other loose forwards in the squad, such as Anton Segner.

Additionally, Rennie discussed potential tactical shifts involving Leicester Fainga'anuku. Following his recovery from injury, the 26-year-old is being considered for a hybrid role that could cover wing, midfield, and loose forward positions. This versatility could allow the All Blacks to utilize a 6-2 bench split in future test matches, provided Fainga'anuku demonstrates sufficient match fitness during the provincial season.
