David Umahi predicts 2027 South-East election results

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has made several significant political statements regarding the South-East region. During a television interview, Umahi expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win all five states in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election, urging residents to move away from regional politics.

Umahi also addressed the ongoing discussions regarding the creation of a sixth state in the South-East to ensure equitable representation. He described the effort as a “work in progress” and noted that the administration is working toward achieving this goal to ensure the region is treated fairly compared to other geopolitical zones.

His remarks have drawn criticism from political opponents. The Labour Party in Ebonyi State issued a statement rejecting Umahi’s comments regarding Anambra State, arguing that his rhetoric could deepen political divisions. Additionally, lawmakers from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the minister of attempting to sow discord between the people of Ebonyi and other Igbo states by making unfounded claims about how Ebonyi residents are treated.
