Davenport Northwest accused of sign stealing in Little League regional final
Davenport Northwest of Iowa is facing accusations of sign stealing following their 7-6 victory over Whitefish Bay of Wisconsin in the Midwest Regional Championship. The win secures Davenport Northwest a spot in the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
During the bottom of the second inning, Whitefish Bay players and coaching staff alleged that Davenport Northwest runners were relaying signs to hitters. Specifically, players reportedly tapped their legs or used arm motions to communicate. While sign recognition is common in professional baseball, Little League regulations strictly prohibit players and coaches from stealing and relaying signs.
Despite the controversy and calls for attention from the opposing manager, umpires conferred briefly during the game but allowed play to continue without formal warnings or protests. As of now, there is no indication that the tournament victory will be overturned.
