Davi Alcolumbre defends Alexandre de Moraes amid impeachment pressure

Senate President Davi Alcolumbre has defended Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes against mounting political pressure for impeachment. During a Senate plenary session, Alcolumbre responded to calls from opposition senators by highlighting a separate controversy involving Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and banker Daniel Vorcaro. Alcolumbre noted that while Moraes faces scrutiny over leaked messages with Vorcaro, Bolsonaro reportedly negotiated approximately R$ 130 million with the same individual to finance the film ‘Dark Horse’, a biopic of Jair Bolsonaro.

The controversy stems from a Federal Police report detailing communications between Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, and Moraes. The report includes indications of a multimillion-dollar contract between Banco Master and the law firm belonging to Moraes' wife. In response, several senators, including Alan Rick and Carlos Viana, have demanded the immediate analysis of impeachment requests, arguing that the judiciary must be held to the same standards of rigor applied to political figures like Jair Bolsonaro.

Additionally, presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado has called for the Supreme Court to lift the secrecy of investigations involving Banco Master, the INSS, and the ‘Dark Horse’ production to ensure democratic transparency. Meanwhile, Senator Alessandro Vieira has characterized legal appeals by Moraes' family as attempts at intimidation following his own criticisms of the justice.
