David Allan Coe and Other Country Music Icons Who Died in 2026

Outlaw country pioneer David Allan Coe died in late April at age 86, marking the most prominent loss for the genre in 2026. Earlier in the year, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Jim McBride (78) passed away on Jan. 6, and celebrated songwriter Don Schlitz, known for hits such as “The Gambler,” also died.
