David Anthony Burke charged with capital murder in Celeste Rivas Hernandez case
David Anthony Burke, known professionally as the musician D4vd, has been charged with capital murder following the discovery of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez's dismembered remains in a Tesla registered to him. The investigation began in September 2025 after the vehicle was impounded due to a foul odor.
Prosecutors allege that Burke killed Hernandez to prevent her from exposing their relationship, which reportedly included sexual activity and discussions of pregnancy when Burke was 18 and the victim was 13. In addition to capital murder, Burke faces charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child and unlawful mutilation of human remains. Evidence presented in court includes text messages, sexually graphic photos, DNA evidence, and testimony from 12 witnesses.
Investigators also claim Burke used a false identity to purchase tools online and made multiple trips to Santa Barbara County following the death. A judge has ruled there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial. Burke has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team maintains his innocence.
